Iron-ON decals now available!

Now you can have your own signature decals on your T-shirts (or any fabric that can be ironed)!

Iron-ON instructions. (1 color)

  1. Place decal on fabric, decal side down and smooth glossy acrylic side up.
  2. Place sheet of tracing paper over decal.
  3. Set iron to the cotton heat setting for cotton and polyester T-shirts, and silk setting for Nylon fabrics. It may not be possible to iron the decal onto delicate Nylon fabrics.
  4. Step 1

  5. Place iron onto decal, hold down with firm moderate pressure and move iron around the decal slowly for 10 -15 secs.
  6. Remove iron, let cool for about 1 minute, until it is cool to touch.
  7. Remove tracing paper and gently lift an edge of the clear acrylic sheet. If decal does not stick on the fabric, leave the acrylic as is, place the tracing paper back on, iron for another 15 secs with a little more pressure.

  8. After removing the acrylic sheet, turn iron heat down to low. Wait for a couple of minutes to allow iron to cool down. Place tracing paper back on the decal, then iron on the new decal with light pressure for a few seconds. This will ensure all the adhesive is transfered onto the fabric so that the holding will be firm and permanent.

    Done

I have not had any more problems than needing to iron twice on certain fabric. Usually, moving iron over decal for 20 secs(max) will do the trick.

Instructions for 2 colors or more ( This requires some planning ahead )

  1. Sort out the sequence of iron on decal. Usually the largest size goes on 1st, but not always!
  2. Repeat the process for ironing on the decal for the 1st layer.
  3. Remove tracing paper and gently off the clear acrylic sheet.
  4. Place 2nd decal, align it visually, then place tracing paper over decal. Be careful to not move the decal.
  5. Iron on decal, moving around for 15 secs.
  6. Let cool and check the results.
  7. Repeat for each color until picture is complete.

These patterns are made with very small vinyl sticky tiles. Prefabricated such that you only have to peel the clear sheet off the waxed paper and place onto your application surface. Its easy!

The real fun of vinyl decal business

I am having so much fun with this little business of mine… Why? You might ask… …..

3 layers, 3 colors... vinyl decal advert

Hey look, I can make any decal that I want, and I can help people who have need for little custom decals.

Sports team custom decals with mascot

The decals that I show here are made in very small orders. Only 1 or 2 pieces. No commercial setup will take on such orders, or if they do, it will be really quite expensive. ..

Customize gift decals, made to order

So.. I thought there might be a little room in this very competitive business for little money to help me go cruising…

My little gifts to friends... :)

Sure, its alot of hard work… time to create the custom designs and to setup for small production cuts is more than most people ever realize. The big boys in this business wont do it, only the little “hungry” ones might.. and I do it for fun, since I dun have overheads to worry about..

Mosaic on book

One of my little fun gifts, a replica ghost from the Pac-man theme.. I thought it was cute.. everyone appreciates a little special gift now and then..

I always like how mosaics look on a feature wall… but tiles are not for everything. .. how about vinyl sticker tiles ? :)

The humble beginnings. ..
StickY BusinesS was started in 2006. I had retired from an engineering job and after idling around for awhile, working on SV Eleanor and Calliste, I was kinda bored. At that time, I was needing some boat letterings and had some difficulty in getting it made just the way I wanted.

So that was it. I did a study on what is needed to set myself up to make these stickers. All that I needed was the machine, a software and sticker materials. Thats me in my little home workspace.

Now that I have this ability to make my own decals, why not make a business out of it. Most boaters will need these letterings too and so will some of my friends for labelling stuff or just for the fun of it kinda thing. The fun kinda thing is like my decorating the car.. bike.. refrigerator… wardrobe… doors in the house… cups… books.. files and er ..  whatever..

I use mainly 3M Oracal sticker material. This material is UV resistant and waterproof, which means it wont fade or change color very much, wont crack up in sunlight, wont be washed out by detergent and very suitable for the boating environment. Could use it in a dishwasher too.. :)

Applications of vinyl stickers ..

1) Always clean surface thoroughly before application.

2) Some designs require transfer tape, and some don’t. For  stickers without transfer tape, simply peel backing away and apply from the middle spreading outwards. The only thing to worry about is bubbles. If there are bubbles, use a fine needle to poke it, then push the air out from the hole.

3) For using transfer tape, the decal have to come off from the backing onto the transfer tape. For any part of the decal that is not sticking to the tape, push on the backing the tape with fingertips. Usually the pressure of fingertips pushing is sufficient to coax the decal off the backing onto the tape.

4) Apply transfer tape with the decal onto the application surface, spread from the middle outwards or from 1 end to the other. Rub on transfer tape, so that the decal will stick better on surface. Peel away the transfer tape gently.
